Kiran Gill, Claims Manager

Kiran joined Enstar from a legal background and has transitioned to a claims manager, and hasn’t looked back.

How long have you worked at Enstar?
I joined Enstar in 2020 when we were in lockdown and working from home. Prior to joining, I’d not met anyone face to face, but the Claims team were friendly and supportive. We had weekly calls with the entire department, as well as different social events – including quizzes and talent shows. It was a really nice way to be introduced to my colleagues and everybody made me feel very welcome.

What attracted you to join Enstar?
It was by chance, to be honest. I practised as a solicitor in Leeds, where I was based, before moving down south. I was fairly new to the London market, and while applying to London law firms, one of them put me in touch with a client, which happened to be Enstar. As a solicitor I worked for insurance companies as my clients but had never thought about working for an insurer and utilising my legal skills in a claims adjuster role. I've not looked back since.

Tell me about the world of Claims at Enstar.
No two days are the same. I am in the FinPro team, and we deal with professional indemnity claims, claims against directors and officers in a range of industries and also financial institutions. As a member of the Claims team, you’re considering complex coverage issues, as well as any potential liability of the insured in accordance with the laws in various jurisdictions and ultimately, how best to resolve the claim. Each claim has different challenges and nuances, which keeps it interesting and exciting.

In what ways does Enstar support your work life balance?
Managers are very supportive and encourage you to have a healthy work-life balance. Of course, there'll be times where work can be more demanding and deadlines can be tight, and when that happens, everyone pulls together as a team and works collaboratively. Equally, if you need flexibility, management are accommodating. They understand that we're all humans and sometimes things crop up beyond your control.

What is your favourite part about working for Enstar?
Definitely the people – they’re always approachable, happy to help, and you can have a laugh with them. For me, the most important thing is feeling like you can be yourself at work and with your colleagues.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the challenge of resolving claims, strategising, and thinking outside the box about how I can make a difference – I get a little buzz out of that.

And finally… Where’s your favourite holiday destination?
I’d have to say Santorini, because I got engaged there. I've also always wanted to go to Italy and this year I’m going to the Amalfi Coast.
