Devano Mowes, Investment Accounting Manager

Meet Devano Mowes, Investment Accounting Manager. Devano joined Enstar over five years ago and has played a meaningful role in the evolution of the Investment Accounting team. Starting as a consultant and working his way up to Manager, he has helped shape improvements that make our processes smoother, faster, and more reliable.

What attracted you to join Enstar?
I was a consultant with Enstar for just over a year and I really enjoyed the challenging environment and the office culture, so when they offered me a permanent role, it was an easy decision!

What inspired you to pursue a career in investment accounting?
I've always had a passion for property investment, and my role at Enstar opened up a new world into the various other investment asset classes, which I find really interesting.

What does the Investment Accounting team at Enstar do?
The Investment Accounting and Investment Management teams manage complex portfolios, ensuring accurate valuation, compliance, and strategic reporting. It’s a dynamic environment focused on precision and insight to support business decisions.

My key responsibilities include performance reporting over our various investments, preparing and reviewing investment-related financial statement disclosures and managing a portion of Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) regulatory reporting. I also oversee billing processes as they relate to our investments.

What motivates and drives you in your day-to-day work?
Enstar's environment is constantly evolving. We have really embraced technological advancements, incorporating machine learning in our processes which allows us to focus on tasks that add value rather than just churning out data. Seeing how we get more time back and increased confidence in the output that we deliver to the various stakeholders across Enstar has been a challenging but rewarding journey.

What is your favourite part about working for Enstar?
I'd have to say the people I work with. Being part of a global company means I get to collaborate with colleagues across our various offices and remote locations, which has been incredibly rewarding. It’s fascinating to experience different cultures and approaches to work. I also really enjoy getting to work alongside people who are driving innovation in our industry - it’s inspiring to see how much opportunity there still is to rethink and improve the way things are done in finance.

And finally, what’s your favourite holiday destination?
I'd definitely have to say Banff, Canada in winter - I never thought coming from one of the dryest countries (I’m from Namibia), that I could enjoy snow that much.
